Promoting Recycled Aggregates: New Committee to Tackle Industry Challenges
The association recently formed a task force made up of industry stakeholders to develop the new Aggregates Recycling Committee. This committee aims to unite the industry to discuss common operational issues, end-market barriers, regulatory challenges and to develop and share industry standard specifications, best practices, and new technologies. By combining assets, abilities and energies, the committee seeks to promote the value of recycled materials, influence market development, and shape public policy. Read more and join the committee!

ShingleRecycling.org Gets a Fresh New Look
Earlier this month, we at CDRA launched a major update to ShingleRecycling.org, our go-to platform dedicated to promoting the recycling of asphalt shingles (RAS).
This redesigned website aims to further advance the recycling of roofing materials, providing improved navigation and a wealth of updated resources. With new features like the redesigned Find A Recycler tool, business tools for recyclers, and a dedicated section on asphalt shingle use in road construction, the site is now an even more valuable resource for roofing contractors and recycling professionals.
We’re excited about this collaboration with industry leaders like CertainTeed and Owens Corning, which has made this new site possible. Learn more about the enhancements and how this upgrade will support the future of shingle recycling in our full press release. Do you Recycle Shingles or know a company that does? Help spread the word through a free listing on Find a Recycler tool. https://shinglerecycling.org/find-a-recycler/

Monthly Safety Scoop
Every year during C&D World, we give out safety awards. It is the annual culmination of our safety program designed to help our members improve the safety of their operations. The effort we put towards improving operational safety is one of our best, yet often overlooked, benefits to being a CDRA member. Our industry revolves around heavy trucks, heavy equipment, crushers, grinders, shredders, magnets, conveyors, screens, stackers, compactors, and balers. We are feeding, loading, unloading, strapping, pushing, wrenching, hauling, pulling, grabbing, and bending. All of which can have significant safety implications. It does not matter if you are a manufacturer, vendor, or on the front lines of operating a MRF, because people are involved, and we have an obligation to keep them safe. This is not an easy task. If you have been in our industry for any length of time, you have a story, maybe even several, of how someone was injured or killed in an accident that could have been prevented. Our members are on the front lines of this every day and collaborate to help one another in this endeavor. Keep Reading.

Safety Awards Opening Soon
Each year, we invite our members to apply for a Best Practices in Safety Award. Taking this step is symbolic of your company’s commitment to safety, for employees and others that work in and around your company facilities. Rather than ranking the performance of your company when compared to others, member companies compete against their own policies, learn from current practices, and identify areas for continuous improvement from one year to the next.
In 2024, we were pleased to announce a record number of participants! We also added a special longtime recognition award that celebrates those companies participating in the program and receiving recognition for at least five and as long as ten years. We invite you to enroll this fall as we continue our efforts to build and foster a safety-focused culture.
Look for a direct link to the application form, coming soon! Also keep in mind that there is no fee to apply. Email us with any questions.

Committee Corner
Our Committees are where all of the lifting occurs! Check out highlights from their discussions at our most recent meetings. CDRA members are encouraged to attend committee meetings to get the most out of their memberships. End Markets CommitteeCommittee Chair Will Hancock welcomed new members as well as guest speaker Christine Kiourtsis, who offered an overview of Renewal Recycling Inc (RRI) and their history. Mattress recycling has been an important segment for RRI for many years, but also a difficult one to manage well. Beyond mattresses, RRI accepts carpets, flooring, and acoustic ceiling tiles. Shingle Recycling Committee
Amlan spoke on the basics of a Lifecycle Analysis (an LCA 101 mini-course, if you will), and how achieving a better understanding of the environment in which a product is produced, used and managed might be applied to the asphalt industry and shingles with the idea that the learnings might shine a light on the environmental benefits of RAS. A detailed look into NAPA's development of an Environmental Product Declaration was shared. An EPD is essentially a standardized document that summarizes the environmental impacts of a product based on a conducted LCA. Read more.
Legislative CommitteeWe welcomed many new faces and Chair Richard Ludt explained the purpose and objectives of the committee, which are to inform and educate the membership on navigating the legislative process and tracking legislation affecting the industry. He emphasized the importance of being proactive rather than reactive, especially in the new legislative environment. Read more.
