Gypsum Recycling Committee

Supporting efforts to increase the volume of post-consumer gypsum recovered and recycled was a focus of our most recent meeting on October 9th. The committee is developing key considerations for the National Stewardship Council (NSC) to consider for potential inclusion in forthcoming legislation aimed at mandating drywall recycling in California. These considerations are based on real-time feedback from our members through polling and by other means. Key concerns raised during our discussion have included the need to stress the number of years typically required to bring new facilities and capacity online.

Chair Terry Weaver and committee members also reviewed and considered some future priorities, which included the eventual completion of the gypsum drywall Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) with assistance from Innovative Technical Solutions. The latest findings shared by Malak Anshassi and Nicole Robey give us confidence that final results will be favorable. ITS expects to be able to complete the first phase of the work very soon! Be sure to join us for our next meeting on December 11th for an update on the LCA and much more.
