C&D World Exceeds Member Expectations

Industry leaders gathered in Bonita Springs, Florida, for C&D World 2024, the premier event for Construction & Demolition recyclers. With record attendance and exhibitors, the convention featured an economic forecast by Comerica Bank’s chief economist, insightful discussions by industry executives and operators, fire prevention strategies, and circularity opportunities. Attendees also explored cutting-edge equipment at the Technology Forum and enjoyed a first-rate tour of one of Southwest Waste’s recycling facilities. This year's C&D World Convention showcased unprecedented collaboration and innovation, setting a new standard for the recycling industry.

Thank you to all members who attended C&D World and to our exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers for helping us curate the record-breaking event. We hope everyone took advantage of all that C&D World had to offer!

2025 C&D World will be in Dallas, TX, in late January. A “Save the Date” announcement will be made soon. A task force will also be forming to work on conference programming, including gypsum and aggregate recycling tracks. Let us know if you’re interested in participating.

Committee Corner

The CDRA is THE FORUM for C&D recycling professionals to collaborate. The Shingle Recycling and Gypsum Recycling Committees are two of our most active communities, and both met in February. Here’s a snapshot of what they’re doing to positively impact the industry in case you missed the meetings.

Shingle Recycling Committee: Chair Dan Horton outlined efforts to boost shingle waste recycling, including seeking funds for a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and redesigning the shinglerecycling.org website. Updates on initiatives such as the Recycling Certification Institute's (RCI) recognition of various operations and Vermont's use of recycled shingles were shared. Plans for the 10th CDRA Shingle Recycling Forum in Indianapolis were also announced, inviting participation in the programming task force.

Gypsum Recycling Committee: The Gypsum Recycling Committee meeting, led by Chair Terry Weaver, focused on quality recycled gypsum and reviewed ongoing projects, notably examining the revised EPA WARM guidelines and reviewing an RFP for a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for recycled gypsum. The RFP will be sent to qualified companies to conduct the LCA project, which is being funded by the Association and key stakeholder members. Additional discussions included CDRA members' support and the importance of legislative advocacy amidst closed-loop recycling initiatives developing in California.

It also verified the integrity of the facility’s recovery/recycling reports.

Coastal Waste & Recycling Partners with Volvo CE and Mack Trucks to Bring Electrification to South Florida: Volvo Construction Equipment and Mack Trucks, both Volvo Group companies, recently delivered on and off-road electric equipment to Palm Beach County based Coastal Waste & Recycling to help the company to further achieve its sustainability goals. Crafted by confidence: Southwest Waste Services builds on decades of experience to offer comprehensive recycling services through its seven post-collection facilities. While Fort Myers, Florida-based Southwest Waste Services is a relatively new company, its leadership’s tenure in the construction and demolition (C&D) recycling industry has helped it quickly expand in the southwest Florida market.
