Aggregates Recycling Committee Corner

CDRA President John Thomas welcomed attendees to the first-ever Aggregates Recycling Committee meeting on April 15th! He introduced future Co-Chair Lauren Asfour and offered all attendees a chance to introduce themselves and share some of the challenges they are facing in this market. New members and longtime CDRA supporters joined us for this meeting.

Various issues were discussed related to concrete, asphalt, and aggregate recycling with members representing many specialty areas of the industry, some of whom were already actively managing material while some were interested in future opportunities. The meeting’s introduction included a review of the committee’s mission, and polling was taken to better understand the group’s interest in specific topics that might serve as a focus for future meetings. Access to end-market information was high on the priority list for attendees. The group was also interested in the possibility of organizing tours during industry trade shows at nearby member facilities to help showcase their operations and foster connections.

Related to tours, members were treated to a virtual tour of the new Eco Materials plant in the Philadelphia, PA area, which is expected to divert up to 700,000 tons of material from landfills at full capacity, to include clean and and contaminated soils from infrastructure and environmental remediation projects, while producing high-quality aggregates in various forms such as stone and sand. Wastewater treatment facilities onsite are expected to recycle up to 95% of water taken in for immediate use. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on June 17th!
